Spanish Rice

Ingredients:

2 lbs. ground beef

1/2 cup plus 3 Tbsp. onion

1/3 cup chopped celery

salt and pepper to taste

1 sm. can mushrooms (optional)

1 cup rice

2 1/4 cup water

1/2 cup green pepper

1 clove garlic

3 Tbs. oil

1 lg. can Tomatoes

2 tsp. chili powder

2 tsp. sugar

1/4 tsp. cloves

1 sm. bay leaf


Directions:

Mix beef, 3 Tbsp. onion, and celery in skillet; season to taste. Add mushrooms; cook 20-30 minutes, stirring frequently. Cook rice in water with 1 tsp. salt until tender; drain. Cook remaining onion, green pepper and garlic, for 5 minutes in oil. Add beef mixture, rice and remaining ingredients. Cover; simmer until mixture is thickened.
