Easy Homemade Fruit Juice Concentrate
There is no need to purchase frozen juice concentrate when you can use this simple recipe to make your own healthy alternative. Prepare the concentrated juice in advance and store in the freezer to use as needed.
Ingredients:
In-
Water
Sugar (optional)
Directions:
Slice fruit of your choice, being careful to cut out any bad parts of the fruit. Peeling the fruit is not necessary if the fruit is clean or rinsed well.
Cut enough fruit to fill a cooking pot 1/2 full. Pour enough water over the fruit so that the pot is about 2/3 full and the fruit can float loosely in the water so as not to scorch while cooking.
Bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 25 minutes or until the fruit is very tender Strain juice through a cheesecloth, squeezing it some to get as much of the liquid out as possible. Pour the juice into plastic freezer containers, remembering to leave at least 1/2 an inch of space from the top. Freeze.
When you are ready to prepare the juice, dilute the concentrate at a rate of 1 part
concentrate to 4-
Unless the fruit is extremely tart, no sweetening is needed. The opened container of concentrate will keep several days in the refrigerator if you do not want to dilute the entire amount at once.
Try making this fruit concentrate with apples, crabapples, cranberries, cherries, mixed berries, peaches, pineapple, or even rhubarb. Use each fruit individually or combine two or more for a new tasty treat.
Note: This particular recipe does not work very well for making an orange juice concentrate, since oranges require slightly different process for extracting and preserving their juice.
