Spiced Apple Cider

You don’t need to press your own apples to make homemade apple cider. This simple recipe adds just the right amount of spice to your average apple juice to transform it into a tasty, zesty cider!

Ingredients:

4 cups pure apple juice

2 inch piece stick cinnamon

1/2 tsp. whole cloves

1/2 tsp. whole allspice

2 Tbsp. brown sugar (optional)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in large kettle and heat to simmering; cover and simmer for at least 20 minutes. The longer you simmer it the stronger the spice flavor will be, so simmer until the cider is as spicy as you like it, then remove from heat and strain out the spices keeping only the liquid. Serve hot.

For added flavor you can also add half an apple and slices of orange (with the peel) to the cider while cooking, then strain these off along with the other spices when the flavor is as strong as you like it.

This same recipe can be made in a slow cooker if you prefer that to cooking it on the stove top. If you are making it a slow cooker, heat the mixture on high for at least 1 hour to help the flavors properly blend well together.
